The Altai Argali Sheep is a species of wild sheep known for its large size and distinctive features. They have a sturdy build with strong legs that allow them to navigate rugged terrains in their mountainous habitats. The males (rams) are significantly larger than the females (ewes). Both genders have a dense and coarse coat of wool that provides insulation against the harsh cold climates of the Altai Mountains. One of the most remarkable features of the Altai Argali Sheep is their magnificent horns. The horns are present in both males and females, but the ones on rams are particularly impressive. They are long, thick, and can grow to be more than a meter in length, curving backward in a spiral shape. These horns are used for defense during mating competitions and to establish dominance within the herd.

Altai Argali Sheep are primarily found in the Altai Mountains of Central Asia, which spans across countries such as Russia, Mongolia, China, and Kazakhstan. These rugged terrains provide a suitable habitat with access to rocky slopes, meadows, and vegetation that the sheep need for survival. These mammals are herbivores, meaning they mainly eat plants. Their diet includes grasses, herbs, shrubs, and mosses that are available in their mountainous habitat. They have specialized stomachs to help digest the tough and fibrous vegetation they consume. 

The Altai Argali Sheep are social animals and often form herds, which can consist of both males and females. During the breeding season, rams engage in competitions by ramming their horns together to establish dominance and win mating rights with the ewes. They are well-adapted to living in high-altitude areas with thin air and can move gracefully across steep slopes.

The Argali Altay Sheep population is currently at risk due to various factors. Habitat loss, mainly from human activities such as mining and agriculture, poses a significant threat to their survival. Additionally, illegal hunting and poaching for their impressive horns have contributed to their decline. Conservation efforts are essential to protect and preserve these majestic animals.
